| Under 20s v Bristol Combination |
Following a very close encounter against Bristol earlier this season which saw Bristol pip Bath by a single point, the scene was set for an exciting return which was played at the Rec in Bath on Wednesday evening. The Bath Combination team, made up of promising players from Clubs including Avon, Avonvale, Combe Down, Corsham, Keynsham, Midsummer Norton, Old Sulians, Oldfield, Walcot and Westbury, took part in this fiercely competitive game. The Bath Combination side put together some promising moves, which resulted in the first Try being scored by Stephen Bath after breaking through a resilient Bristol back line. Bristol responded with a well-worked try, which saw the teams draw level 10 – 10 at the break. In the second half Bath turned up the pressure, forcing Bristol to concede 2 penalties, which were converted by the Bath kickers Rob Fitch and Matt Fairless. Bath ran in their second Try of the game scored by Flanker, Freddie Scobey, following a quickly tap penalty by scrum half Sam Prentice allowing Scobey to power his way through several would be tacklers and race to the line. The Bristol team, who remained resilient and competitive throughout, then produced the move of the game to score a well worked Try which was converted, bringing the points tally to 24 – 17 in favour of Bath. This created a very tense final 5 minutes in which Bath defended very well up to the final whistle. The Bath Combination Captain, Tom Knight, commented “I was very impressed by the effort put in by all the players in the Bath squad who worked hard all season, enabling us to triumph over a very well organised and competitive Bristol team”.
